Sexual Health and African Communities – A Peer Education Project

The Centre for HIV & Sexual Health recognises the importance of ensuring that accurate, up-to-date and relevant information on all aspects of sexual health (including HIV/ AIDS awareness) is available to all people from all communities in Sheffield.

We are committed to an inclusive model of health promotion and operate many different projects that target particular communities. One of our current projects is a peer education project specifically for people of African origin.

As part of this project we have recruited a number of women and men from African Communities in Sheffield. These volunteers have been trained in sexual health issues and group work/facilitation skills and are very keen to work with African community groups in raising the importance of sexual health with other African people living in Sheffield.

We can offer a range of one-off sessions or ongoing work on all issues of sexual health including:

  • HIV / AIDS Awareness
  • Contraception and Condom Use
  • Sexually Transmitted Infections
  • Men’s Sexual Health Issues
  • Women and Sexual Health

These sessions can be in English, French, Shona, Swahili and Pidgin.
